How Do I Know My Son Has Been Selected for Select Generation Academy and It’s Not a “Pay-to-Play” Program?

Players are hand-picked after Select Generation scouts have either seen them play live or reviewed full-game footage.

SGA competes in the highly competitive Spanish football pyramid, where promotion and relegation are fundamental. We only offer contracts to players we believe have the talent and potential to make the squad and contribute to our goal of achieving promotion.

The goal of the program is to develop talented players, expand our agency network, and create opportunities to represent players at the professional level, while also mentoring them to become not only better players, but better human beings.

Your Google Reviews Seem Too Good to Be True! How Do I Know They’re Legit?

At any point in the recruiting process, if you want to talk to a previous player or parent, please ask, and we're more than happy to connect you. We're good at what we do!

Can Players of All Skill Levels Enroll?

No. Players are selected through scouting at tournaments and showcases, player referrals, or a thorough review of game film.

We focus on identifying talented players who meet our standards and can contribute to our goal of achieving promotion.

How Will the New NCAA Age-Based Eligibility Rule Affect My Eligibility?

Under the new NCAA age-based eligibility rule, effective for the 2026–27 academic year, the five-year eligibility window begins at whichever comes first: enrolling full-time at a college or university, or the start of the academic year immediately following your 19th birthday.

As long as you enroll in college no later than the academic year after you turn 19, you can retain the full five years of eligibility.

A gap year at SGA does not start your NCAA eligibility clock because you are not enrolled full-time at a degree-granting institution. Similarly, taking online courses part-time (fewer than 12 credit hours) does not start your eligibility clock.

How Does My Son Get NCAA Exposure if He Is in Spain?

College coaches and scouts recruit internationally based on players they trust and have established relationships with. Select Generation is a FIFA-licensed agency with a global network and direct relationships with NCAA coaching staff across all divisions.

Our staff actively connects players with college programs, shares game film and highlight reels, facilitates communication with coaches, and supports players throughout the recruiting process.

Being based in Spain does not limit your exposure. Instead, it enhances your profile by adding international competitive experience to your soccer résumé.

My Son Wants to Play College Soccer in the NCAA or U Sports. CanHe Still Do That If He Plays for SGA for One Year?

Yes. All SGA players compete as amateurs, allowing them to maintain their NCAA and U Sports eligibility throughout the program. A year at SGA does not jeopardize a player’s ability to pursue college soccer.

To stay on track academically, players can take online courses through UNH or a community college while in Spain, provided they remain enrolled part-time (fewer than 12 credit hours).

Many players also use the year to study Spanish, earn coaching certifications, work, or explore other interests before committing to full-time education with a clearer sense of direction.

How Will I Know He Gets Good Playing Time?

We begin preseason in August and finish in May, providing a rigorous 10-month season filled with intensity, competition, injuries, suspensions, and adversity.

Each roster is limited to 20 players, ensuring healthy rotation and giving players meaningful opportunities to earn regular playing time.

Our goal as a club is to achieve promotion and compete at a high level. This means the players selected must meet the required standard to earn regular playing time and make a significant impact on the field.

What Coaching Qualifications Do Your Instructors Have?

Our coaching staff holds UEFA licenses and has extensive experience in professional soccer environments, providing top-tier training and guidance to help players reach their full potential.

You can learn more about our coaching staff on our website.

What Happens if a Pro Club Wants My Son During the Season?

We hope this happens! If a professional club shows interest in your son, we will work closely with the player and their family to assess the offer and determine the best next step.

Player development is a key objective of Select Generation. As a FIFA-licensed agency, we will represent the player and support them throughout the process.

Do Players Compete Against Academies or Men’s Teams?

Our teams compete within the FIFA system in Spain under the RFEF (Royal Spanish Football Federation) and FCyLF (Federación de Castilla y León de Fútbol).

We field a first team and a reserve team within the men’s football pyramid, as well as a U19 squad. This provides players with different levels of competition and opposition, helping them develop both physically and tactically.

You can view our current schedule and league standings on our website.

Do You Offer Scholarships or Financial Assistance?

Yes, we offer scholarship opportunities and financial aid based on merit and need, ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent talented players from joining the academy.

How Does the Academy Support Players in Their Academic Pursuits?

Players who wish to pursue soccer opportunities through the NCAA or U Sports can take college courses online while in Spain. These courses may be transferable to universities, depending on the institution and its transfer-credit policies.

We have partnerships with universities that provide academic support, helping players balance their soccer development with their educational goals. Players also have the option to pursue in-person studies if they prefer.

Can Players Sign for More Than One Year?

Players typically sign a one-year contract to complete the season. However, if a player shows significant development and wants to continue while pursuing a two-year associate's degree, for example, we can offer the option to extend their contract for a second year.

What Is the Duration of the Program?

The program runs from mid-August through May or June, depending on whether the team advances to the playoffs. Most players sign a one-year contract.

Our goal is to provide players with all the resources they need to grow both as soccer players and as individuals, with continued support during and after their time with Select Generation Academy.

This is more than just a one-year program. We are making a long-term investment in our players, supporting their personal journeys, development, and careers.

Accommodation Arrangements for Players

Each player will have their own private en-suite room with a private bathroom, providing comfort and convenience throughout their stay.

Each room is equipped with essential amenities, including a bed, desk, wardrobe, towels, bed sheets, and blankets. The residence staff also clean the rooms periodically to ensure a comfortable and well-maintained living environment.

My Son Doesn’t Drive, or He Won’t Have a Car. How Will He Get Around?

The field is a 7-minute walk from the student residence. The student residence is a 20-minute walk to downtown. We also provide vans for away games, and the squad travels together.

Can I get student funding?

Select Generation Academy does not accept student financing options such as FAFSA or other academic grants. Scholarships are backed by sponsors and the Spanish Government.

How Do Players Spend Their Spare Time Outside of Training?

Players can use their spare time to enroll in coaching courses to enhance their soccer knowledge, attend Spanish language classes, or pursue academic studies through affiliated online universities to earn credits that may be eligible for NCAA transfer.

Players also spend time updating their highlight reels, texting and calling coaches about their next steps with support from SGA staff, attending individual meetings, and reviewing their own game footage and local professional matches.

They also have access to a gym at the residence for workouts, injury prevention, and recovery, as well as shared spaces where they can relax and unwind.

It’s a One-Year Season, But Can He Come Home for Christmas Break?

Yes! When the schedule is released, families are informed. Typically, there is a 2-3 week winter break during the holidays.

Do I Need Health Insurance for This? What If He Gets Injured?

All players are covered by the federation and the club for soccer-related activities. In the event of a long-term injury, players can access hospital care and use the club’s resources, including our physiotherapist and physical trainer, for recovery and rehabilitation.

Where Are Your Players From?

Our scouting network is based in North America, with players primarily coming from across the U.S. and Canada. We focus on discovering under-the-radar talent—players with strong athletic and technical ability who need further development in the tactical aspects of their game.

Select Generation has extensive expertise in the North American soccer system and understands the various pathways available to players after high school graduation.

We continuously scout and recruit high-level players from around the world as we pursue our goal of achieving promotion.

Why Is Your Club the Best?

We’re not promising a professional contract or a scholarship. What we promise is opportunity, genuine development, and an environment that challenges you to grow. Our goal is for you to leave knowing exactly who you are as both a player and a person, ready for whatever comes next—on and off the field.

We compete within European football pyramids under UEFA-licensed coaches, with pathways to NCAA programs and professional clubs. We don’t focus on friendlies or matches that don’t matter. Every game has a purpose—whether it’s competing for promotion, testing yourself at a high level, or proving that you belong.

Players also have access to quality living conditions and academic options if they want to continue their education while playing. More importantly, they gain the perspective that comes from experiencing different cultures, environments, and challenges.

This club is a stepping stone, not a destination. Our job is to prepare you for the next one.
